This is not something that I would normally do, as I am someone who is often approached to give advice and I regularly advise others to achieve a better way of life, so here goes.

You regulate your life according to the Quran and Sunnah, and there is much advice given in these sources concerning looking after the self. Sometimes when you are busy you tend to overlook this advice. Firstly, I remind you that the Prophet (saw) said, “The best of people are those that bring the most benefit to the rest of mankind” (Daraqutni).  In order to benefit mankind, you have to be in a state of well-being.

You will be less productive if you allow yourself to burnout and be exhausted. Pace yourself, spread out your workload and include time to look after yourself, take time out, relax and do less stressful activities. Stick to your regime of healthy eating and exercise, as often when you are busy, maintaining discipline can become difficult, but it has many benefits as you know from experience.

Secondly, I remind you having good thoughts about the outlook of your life are very important. The Prophet (saw) said, “To have good thoughts is part of good worship” (Ahmad). We all want success – both in the Dunya (worldly life) and Akhira (the Hereafter). Trials and tribulations are part of the test of life. Sometimes you are tested with the thing you want the most, be patient and have good thoughts about the possible outcomes. If things turn out different to that what you had hoped for, then know that there is greater wisdom behind this outcome.

May Allah (swt) grant us the tawfeeq (ability) to understand, Ameen.
